Budgie Diet
A budgie diet needs to be balanced to give your pet
bird the best possible nutrition.
A good budgie diet consists of shop bought high
quality parakeet seed. You can also supplement this with
additional pellets.
Budgies also love millet which can be bought in sticks. They
clip to the side of the bird cage and are usually divulged by
your parakeet within days.
Calcium is important in any bird's diet, and the best way to
supply your budgie with calcium is with a cuttlefish. To
provide your pet birds with all the goodness of
nature give them fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily
basis. Always clear away used foods after a few hours. By
sitting the vitamins and minerals will perish and be of no use
for your budgie bird.
Our budgie loves to have a bath.
Therefore we always have a plastic dish with tepid water at
hand for our birds to bathe in.
Like the budgie, our cockatiels
are water rats and on a hot summers day, they welcome a
generous spray mist with a specially kept water bottle.
Never re-use any bottles that have been used to house
chemicals beforehand.
Buy a new bottle and keep it for your birds instead.
Your budgie also needs fresh water in his bird cage every day. He is quite capable
of drinking out of a normal water dish like you see in pet
stores.
Pet bird care is not complete
without adequate budgie diet. In general they love many things
we eat, but we suggest you are careful with the dangerous
foods. You can also see our cockatiel diet page to see what to
avoid. Since our budgie lives with our tiels, he pretty much
eats what they do.
In pet shops you will find a huge selection of budgie diet
supplements and other things such as bird toys, etc. We often find that half of
that stuff is not necessary for your budgie's health. Instead,
treat your budgerigar with respect and care and provide him
with our suggestions for a budgie diet and you should have no
issues at all.
